Racing down the corridor, Terrence was sure every professor could hear his footsteps echoing with every fall. " Damn" he thought to himself, " How is it possible that one could fall asleep during breakfast?"He stopped for a moment, placing his hands on his head, desperately trying to catch his breath before he walked into the classroom looking like an utter buffoon.Clearing his throat, he gave a polite knock on the classroom door and proceeded to enter the transfiguration classroom, as silently as possible. He tip-toed , rather ridiculously, to the nearest open desk.
Terrence placed his satchel on the floor next to his desk and began to search for his course materials. He was very focused on the task at hand, hoping that no one was staring at him for walking in the class late. Rummaging through his pack, he discovered several broken quills, potion ingredients, and other various debris from his previous term. He made a mental note to clean out his backpack as soon as he went to the common rooms, later that evening.
He pulled out his book, finally, freeing it from the abyss, found a usable quill, bottle of ink, and parchment. He braced the desk, gave a snort of accomplishment, and muttering, rather loudly to himself said, "Ok, I am ready now." However, as soon as he finished this statement, it appeared that he had braced the desk too quickly, and proceeded to topple the ink bottle all over his robes, books, and desk. Terrence gave a groan, " Of course this would happen to me on the first day, why wouldn't it?" He asked the heavens with disapproval.

Mason groaned as he headed towards his next class which was Transfiguration. He was good at it, but he disliked the class. Mason walked to class, he knew that if he didn't pick up his pace he would be late, but he really didn't care, he hated the class. He was passed up by a hufflepuff running to class, so he wouldn't be late. He looked around the hall as other students proceeded to hurry to their classes, and looked at Mason like he was nuts because he wasn't in any hurry, some looked at him like he was an amusement and the look on their face was 'i wonder if he is going to my class.' They wouldn't know till he walked in to the room.
Mason finally reached the door, and pushed his way through the door, and smiled at the professor, and then went to take his seat as the hufflepuff made a mess of his robes with the ink. Mason shook his head and took his seat, and rummaged through his backpack, and found his book, a quill, ink and parchment, it didn't take him that long to find all of the things he seemed to be looking for. He turned to the hufflepuff and said "It just wouldn't be right if someone didn't make a mess of themselves the first day of class" he gave him a smile, and then said "I'm Mason."
Mason took out his wand, and with a wave of it, the mess was gone from Terrence's shirt. It was a cleaning spell, and it was also quite simple to preform. Mason had used this spell many times while at the school, to clean his area up, he was so well at the spell he didn't need to say the words, then again most of the time he forgot the words, because all he had to do was think about what he wanted clean and wave his wand and it was clean. Now most of the time it didn't work, but it worked that time. "Better?" he asked with a polite smile on his face.

The ink was dripping over the desk and seeping into his shoes and those of his neighbors. He let out a mild curse and rummaged through his sack to find something to clean the mess with. Emerging with sock in hand he quickly tried to clean the mess he made, as his other classmates raised their feet so Terrence could clean under them. "That's right," He muttered," Just make way for the house elf." Terrence, being on his hands and knees did not even notice when a student sat beside him until the ink on the floor began to disappear.
As the ink quickly vanished from Terrence's robes, he looked up in astonishment. " Wow, thank you. I feel entirely in your debt, and you must teach me that spell. Sadly, every first class, one must make a sacrifice to the humiliation gods. So I suppose I should be thankful that at least they didn't choose too terrible of a fate for me." He put his hand out, " Terrence, its wonderful to meet you Mason, and yes having clean robes is much better, being wet and sticky is rather uncomfortable." He said with a grin. Terrence felt humbled by such an act of kindness, and it he wasn't likely to forget it. In most situations, other people would have simply made fun of him or ignore him completely.
Terrence looked at Mason's robes and noticed that he wasn't a Hufflepuff. It seemed very odd to him that a stranger would be so kind, and he made a mental note to keep an eye on him. This may sound strange, but Terrence liked to "collect" people. All of his friends contained a unique characteristic about them, and all of them were innately moral. Terrence had a good feeling about this one. " So, what brings you to class so late, and how did you not loose points?" Terrence asked his new classmate.

“Well I would teach you the spell if only I could remember it, bad case of forgetting spells.” Mason said to Terrence. “But the moment I remember the spell I will pass it on to you.” He was glad to help out a fellow classmate, who had a bad first day of classes, because he had been there plenty enough times. Mason looked at him glad that he felt better. “Well the Humiliation gods I think are well pleased in you” Mason said with a chuckle. He looked around and noticed all of the other students quickly forgetting about Terrence and Mason.
“I hate this class, but yet I excel in it, and I’m forced to be here.” He said with a smile. Mason didn’t like the class at all, but he had to be there because of the schedule he was put on by his family, he had to take the classes he was good at, even if he didn’t like them. “Oh I lost them; I just don’t ask how much I lost. I hate this class, and the professor knows it, so he just leaves me alone about being late, and he just docks house points, and I bring them back up with my homework and stuff.” Mason said as a matter of fact, but he really didn’t like this class, but he did well in it.
Mason smiled and said “What brings you late to class?” Mason looked at him then took out his book, as the professor instructed. He turned the pages, but his attention was more focused on Terrence and what he was saying. Mason didn’t really care about the class so he was more interested in what others were doing and saying around the classroom. Mason looked around the room, some of the students looked like they were ready to fall asleep, others were paying more attention to the professor then they should have been.

Terrence gave Mason a funny look," Wait, you already know how to do non-verbal spells? That's really advanced, isn't it? I suppose, I could always go to the library and look it up for myself." Terrence rubbed the back of his neck in mild embarrassment." Yes, I believe they are very pleased with my offering. Hopefully, this means I get to avoid future huh mishaps." Terrence was relieved that others stopped looking at them. It wasn't often that he made a fool out of himself, but when he did, it wasn't a pretty sight. Terrence was mildly sensitive to what others believed his intellect level was, because of his family.
" Well, that sounds like quite a predicament. Though for my sake, I am happy to be sitting next to a genius." Terrence said with a smile. He was rather indifferent to Transfiguration. He understood it's purpose and with all things, he had a thirst to understand the principles behind the concept. Terrence would have just called it "bad genetic's", but truth be told, he was genuinely interested, though for appearance sake, he might act otherwise. " Your arrangement doesn't sound too terrible." Terrence stated. " I wouldn't mind not having to be scold by the professor ever again. It seems as if you are barely existing in this class, just for homework and exams, right? Do you already know all of this information?", Terrence asked.
Terrence let out a chuckle," Well I am late because somehow I fell asleep during breakfast. I didn't think a feat like that was even possible. How could one become unconscious with the aroma of sausage in the air. The funny thing is that I don't even remember putting my head down." Terrence thought to himself, trying to retrace his steps. He truly had no idea how it happened. He absentmindedly, took out his book and began flipping through the pages as well.

Mason smiled at Terrence and said "Yes thats the only non-verbal spell i can do," which was true, he used that spell so often that he was excellent at it. Mason looked at him "Yes it is very advance, but as i said before its the only one i can preform non-verbally." He was ok at charms and spells, but he got good at that one because he used it so often, and he so often forgot it. He started practicing it with out using words. It took him almost a year to get it just right, and he didn't mess anything else up in the process. He was still missing some shoes that he lost while he was first practicing the spell with out words. He even went to others to try to help him, it was very funny apparently when he got it wrong, and things disappeared, and then the mess got bigger. "Truth be told, i still mess up on the spell sometimes." he said he wasn't all that happy about it, but it was true he did mess them up.
Mason smiled and replied "I'm hardly a genius," he looked at him. He didn't really know why he was so good in the class, but he did know he hated it with a passion. "No i dont know the lessons or anything but what i already know, i guess im just lucky or something, because all i do is take the exams, and do the homework, and of course i read the book." he informed Terrence, it wasn't much of a secret to anyone. "I guess its like Neaveh in Care of Magical creatures, how she excels in it with out really trying." Mason said trying to put it in a why he could understand. "But the only difference is, is that she loved Care of Magical Creatures, and i hate transfiguration" he chuckled at that. He didn't know why he was so good in it, but he hated it with a passion.
"Its not that terrible, unless we get a new professor in here before i graduate, then im toast. I play a delicate balancing act with the professor, in this class." He informed him. "Its rather quite interesting to see on one of the professors bad days in not liking me." Which was true, if the professor was in a bad mood, it was almost certain that he would lose a lot of house points, and he would end up serving a detention or two for it, but Mason didn't mind it.
Mason gave him an odd look, "Well that is interesting, how does one sleep through breakfast." He wasn't mocking Terrence or anything, but that was a really interesting thing. Especially since his house is right there on the same level as the kitchens, that one was a new one for Mason. It was still something for him to think about. "For me i would have been awake at the smell of bacon, not a big sausage fan." He said with a smile, but it was true, he preferred bacon, the crispier the better.
